Field Buddy

“My first year in Fathers in the Field is almost over and I’m going to keep participating for about 2 years, I’ve learned a lot through this whole year especially my 4 day turkey hunt. I’m enjoying a lot of this time with Scott and John, except when ever John pulls pranks on me. I almost die when he does that. For some reason I fall for the oldest pranks, on my turkey hunt for instance, Scott, John, Laine and I, were walking and John waves over to his right like he’s waving at someone........... I looked over to see who he was waving at, it was A TREE.

Anyways, I’m going to church with Scott every other Sunday, it passes time. I’ve learned something’s from time to time. I’m either sleeping, drawing, or singing quietly when I go to church, not that it’s BORING, I just can’t really pay good attention a whole lot. I personally think I’m like that is because well, I feel like that’s how I’ve been for ten years. For me, it seems like its always school and thinking of my dad, so what I’m saying is that if you meet me and you’re talking to me, be prepared at the end of your sentence to be “what”? I really enjoyed Fathers in the Field. Tthanks for reducing the chances of me saying “I’m bored”.”

Mentor Father

“My name is Bill Moss. I am an Elder at Covenant Presbyterian Church, Lander, Wyoming.

God has given me a love for the outdoors. When I was a young boy of seven (7), our family would "tent camp" in the Smokey Mountains of North Caroline. I later moved to Wyoming to be close to the great hiking, fishing, and hunting opportunities this state has to offer.

It has been a real joy to share my love for God's creation and skills I have learned over the years with my Field Buddy James. We started our journey months ago and our relationship has grown through sharing outdoor skills and the journey guide devotion bible studies.

James and I think any young man, just needs a little one on one, centered around the outdoors and God's word to develop into what God has for them. James' growth into young manhood, knowing that God loves him and cares for him has been really quite incredible. As we have taken this journey together, my own growth as a Christian has taken on another whole level of commitment to Christ's Kingdom.

Father's in the Field is a real "hands on" way to effectively share the gospel of Christ with young men. I highly recommend it. The need is great. The great commissioner beckons us. I can't think of a better way to glorify God and help us change the direction of a boys' life than this ministry.”
